The Alexander
Squamish, BC — Townhome Development
Sustainably Crafted Townhomes in Squamish
About the Project
The Alexander is a community of sustainably built three-bedroom townhomes by Finch Drive, set in a planned neighbourhood in Squamish with direct access to the surrounding landscape. Designed as net-zero homes across three floors, the East and West plans pair modern, intelligent layouts with a restrained material palette — the kind of interior that needed a floor to settle into the architecture rather than compete with it. The development has since sold out.
Buyers chose between two designer palettes, Sand and Stone. To suit both, Tantalus Floors supplied two coordinating floating engineered hardwood selections — two colours from Beaulieu Canada’s Casting engineered hardwood collection, Davis and Costner — and supported the flooring across every home in the project.
The Challenge
Squamish sees more than 2,200 mm of rain a year, and a hillside site meant subfloor conditions shifted from home to home. The floor had to stay dimensionally stable through coastal-mountain humidity, stand up to daily traffic, and keep the interiors light, open, and unmistakably mountain-modern.
- Stable through humidity — Coastal-mountain moisture and 2,200+ mm of annual rainfall called for an engineered floor that holds its shape through seasonal swings, where solid hardwood can cup or gap.
- Built for traffic — Three-storey family homes demand a surface that resists wear, scratches, and the realities of pets and daily use.
- Visually neutral — A light, organic tone was needed to open the spaces and sit comfortably within both the Sand and Stone palettes.
Our Solution
We specified two floating engineered hardwood selections from Beaulieu Canada’s Casting collection — the Davis (#1602) and Costner (#1601), both in the warm-neutral ‘Casting’ tone that reads naturally against either designer palette without leaning one way.
- Built for every level — Rated to handle normal temperature and humidity changes and to install on any floor from basement to top, and compatible with embedded radiant heat — a fit for three-storey, net-zero homes.
- Wear-resistant matte finish — A protective coating over a real-wood matte surface stands up to pets, furniture, and daily family traffic.
- Certified quality and air quality — Both floors are BLC Certified® and FloorScore® Certified for indoor air quality, with a reduced eco footprint that suits The Alexander’s sustainable build.
- Floating install over a hillside site — A floating system seats cleanly over the varied subfloors a hillside brings, with wide, long planks that keep the open-plan rooms calm and uninterrupted.
- Coordinated subfloor prep — Levelling and moisture-barrier work matched to each home’s conditions before a single plank went down.
Because buyers could choose either palette, both floors had to be stocked and delivered in step with the construction schedule — Tantalus coordinated supply so every townhome closed with the right floor, on time.

Harrison did a great job refinishing our badly damaged fir flooring in Pemberton. Like new again — thank you!
The team at Tantalus Floors did an incredible job installing a new hardwood floor throughout my house. Very pleased and would definitely recommend.
My floors were in such bad condition — the amazing job Harrison did literally made them look new. So reassuring to find a company with this dedication to professionalism and results.
Infinite patience while we tweaked for two years — then all business. On time. On budget. No surprises. We have already recommended Tantalus multiple times, and this is the first Google review I have ever written.
