The Madden
Squamish, BC — Duplex Development
Sustainably Crafted Duplexes in Squamish
About the Project
The Madden is a collection of sustainably built three-level duplexes by Finch Drive, set in a planned Squamish neighbourhood with private yards and direct access to the surrounding landscape. Designed as net-zero homes across three levels, the East and West plans pair advanced building technology and modern interiors with spacious, open living — interiors that called for a floor quiet enough to let the architecture lead. Every home has since sold.
To carry a calm, consistent material story through every home, Tantalus Floors supplied two coordinating floating engineered hardwood selections — Beaulieu Canada’s Casting engineered hardwood in the Davis and Costner colourways — and supported the flooring across the project from spec to install.
The Challenge
With over 2,200 mm of annual rainfall in Squamish, and subfloor conditions that varied from home to home, moisture management drove the spec. The floor had to stay dimensionally stable through coastal-mountain humidity, stand up to daily family traffic across three levels, and keep the interiors light, open, and unmistakably mountain-modern.
- Stable through humidity — Coastal-mountain moisture and 2,200+ mm of annual rainfall called for an engineered floor that holds its shape through seasonal swings, where solid hardwood can cup or gap.
- Built for traffic — Three-level duplex homes demand a surface that resists wear, scratches, and the realities of pets and daily use.
- Visually neutral — A light, organic tone was needed to open the spaces and sit comfortably within the homes’ modern interiors.
Our Solution
We specified two floating engineered hardwood selections from Beaulieu Canada’s Casting collection — the Davis (#1602) and Costner (#1601), a warm-neutral pairing that reads naturally in a modern interior without leaning warm or cool.
- Built for every level — Rated to handle normal temperature and humidity changes and to install on any floor from basement to top, and compatible with embedded radiant heat — a fit for three-level, net-zero homes.
- Wear-resistant matte finish — A protective coating over a real-wood matte surface stands up to pets, furniture, and daily family traffic.
- Certified quality and air quality — Both floors are BLC Certified® and FloorScore® Certified for indoor air quality, with a reduced eco footprint that suits The Madden’s sustainable build.
- Floating install over varied subfloors — A floating system seats cleanly over the varied subfloors across the duplexes, with wide, long planks that keep the open-plan rooms calm and uninterrupted.
- Coordinated subfloor prep — Levelling and moisture-barrier work matched to each home’s conditions before a single plank went down.
In a three-level duplex the same floor runs from entry to top floor, so consistent batching mattered — we supported the builder with steady supply and spec guidance from first delivery to final walkthrough.

Harrison did a great job refinishing our badly damaged fir flooring in Pemberton. Like new again — thank you!
The team at Tantalus Floors did an incredible job installing a new hardwood floor throughout my house. Very pleased and would definitely recommend.
My floors were in such bad condition — the amazing job Harrison did literally made them look new. So reassuring to find a company with this dedication to professionalism and results.
Infinite patience while we tweaked for two years — then all business. On time. On budget. No surprises. We have already recommended Tantalus multiple times, and this is the first Google review I have ever written.
