Squamish

Squamish Flooring for Homes, Strata and Builders

Squamish flooring has one job before it has any other: survive the rain. The town gets over 2,200 mm a year, and that water comes inside on boots, bikes, dogs and climbing gear. Tantalus Floors works out of 72-1188 Main Street in Squamish, and we supply, install and refinish floors for houses, townhomes, condo buildings and businesses from here to Britannia Beach.

Squamish flooring services

We handle the whole scope: picking the product, supplying it, preparing the subfloor, installing, finishing and coming back for repairs.

  • Hardwood, engineered or solid. Engineered is our default for most Squamish homes.
  • Sanding, refinishing and recoating. Old floors brought back, or a new top coat on a floor that's only dull.
  • Custom stain colours. Tested on your boards before we commit.
  • Repairs. Water damage, gaps and broken boards.
  • Stairs. Treads and railings in the same wood as the floor.
  • Laminate and vinyl. For basements, mudrooms, rentals and condo units.
  • Material supply. We stock and source the flooring, so builders and owners deal with one company from spec to install. See material supply.

Built for wet boots and a 2,200 mm year

The floors that last in Squamish are the ones that stay flat when the humidity climbs. That usually means engineered hardwood in the living areas, a water-resistant laminate or vinyl at the door, and a tough finish on top.

Engineered boards are layered, so they shrink and swell far less than solid planks. Every multi-unit job on this page used a floating engineered or laminate floor for that reason. Solid hardwood is still a fine choice upstairs in a dry, well-heated house, as long as you accept it will move a little with the seasons.

Grit is the other enemy. A family coming off the trails, or a dog after a wet walk, will scratch a soft finish quickly. Matte and brushed surfaces hide that wear better than gloss. Plan for a recoat before the finish wears through to bare wood.

Eco-friendly flooring choices

Low-emission flooring is easy to get in Squamish, and many of the town's newer buildings ask for it. Here's what to ask about:

  • Certified wood. FSC-certified products come from responsibly managed forests.
  • Reclaimed wood. Character boards with a second life.
  • Indoor air ratings. FloorScore certification, or E1 and CARB Phase II for formaldehyde emissions.
  • Low-VOC finishes. Less off-gassing after the job, which matters if you're moving back in quickly.

Durability is an environmental choice too. A floor that can be sanded and refinished several times stays out of the landfill for decades, and that is where engineered hardwood with a decent wear layer earns its price.

How a Squamish job runs

Every project starts with a site visit and a written quote, and the crew doesn't start until the material has settled into the space.

  1. Visit and quote. We check the subfloor, measure, talk through products and send a written quote with no obligation.
  2. Product choice. We narrow the options to what suits each room and your budget.
  3. Prep and install. Levelling, moisture checks and installation or sanding, then cleanup.
  4. Walkthrough. We go over the finished floor with you and explain how to care for it through a wet winter.

Pricing depends on the product, the size of the area, the subfloor and access. We quote after a site visit.

Squamish Case Studies

Our largest jobs in the area are multi-unit residential builds, where one product has to look the same in every home and arrive on the builder's schedule. A few of them:

  • Skyridge. We supplied and floated two EUROSTYLE Signature Brushed engineered oaks, Oak Granito and Oak Chiaro, across 90 duplexes, townhomes and condos in Diamond Head Development's Built Green community. Both are rated E1 and CARB Phase II for low emissions.
  • The Alexander. Net-zero townhomes by Finch Drive, where buyers picked a Sand or Stone palette. We kept both Beaulieu Canada Casting floors, Davis and Costner, in stock and delivered in step with construction so each home closed with the right one.
  • The Madden. Three-level net-zero duplexes, also by Finch Drive, with the same Casting pair running from entry to top floor. Consistent batching kept the colour even on every level.
  • The Levette. A 41-unit condo building off Raven Drive, where we supplied and installed Fuzion Waterfront floating laminate in every unit. The hillside site meant coordinating subfloor prep with the builder before any planks went down.

Just down Highway 99 in Britannia Beach, we matched new narrow-plank Fir to the 100-year-old floor of the historic School House, now Autostrada Oyster Bar & Grill, then refinished old and new together in Jacobean stain under Bona Traffic HD.

Developers, stratas and business owners can read how we run larger jobs on our commercial flooring page.
