Floor Refinishing Services

Methods of Floor Refinishing

Choosing the right flooring finishes are essential to achieving the perfect balance of style and durability. Before making a decision, consider the space’s long-term needs. Is it a high-traffic area? Will it be exposed to moisture buildup? Our team of professionals evaluates these factors to recommend the best solution for your home or business.

We specialize in dustless refinishing, a cleaner, more efficient way to restore hardwood floors without the mess. This advanced process ensures a smooth, high-quality finish while minimizing disruption to your space.

Enhance the beauty of your project with a wide range of finishes, including water-based, oil-based, and craft oil options. With so many choices available, you can achieve the perfect look while ensuring long-lasting performance.

What are “Craft Oil Finishes”

Craft oil finishes, such as Danish oil or tung oil, are natural and non-toxic options. They enhance the wood’s natural beauty and provide a matte or satin finish. These finishes may require more frequent maintenance and reapplication. Craft oil finishes are ideal for those who prefer a more natural and hand-rubbed appearance.

What are “Water-Based Finishes”

Water-based finishes are known for their low odour and fast drying times. They are environmentally friendly and contain fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These finishes offer excellent clarity, making them ideal for lighter wood colours. While they provide good protection, they may require more frequent recoating in high-traffic areas.

What are “Oil-Based Finishes”

Polyurethane oil-based finishes, like Woodline Polyurethane, are indeed popular for achieving a rich, antique look on wood surfaces. These finishes are known for their durability and their ability to accentuate the natural grain of the wood, adding depth and warmth. The mention of different sheens like satin, semi-gloss, and gloss indicates that these finishes offer versatility in terms of the final look.

If you prefer an antique look but with a matte finish, an effective approach would be to first use an oil-based finish to enhance the wood’s grain and color, then apply a water-based matte topcoat. This technique combines the aesthetic qualities of oil-based products with the modern, subtle sheen provided by water-based matte finishes, thus offering the best of both traditional and contemporary styles. This combination not only preserves the wood’s natural beauty but also gives it a more modern, understated look.
