Hard flooring Installation

Common Types
of Hardflooring Materials

Choosing the right flooring material is critical to achieving the desired look and function. When planning your choices, think about the long-term goal for that area. Is it high traffic? Will there be moisture buildup? Our team of professionals considers these questions before making a recommendation. Here are some of the most common options for the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is known for its timeless beauty and durability. It adds warmth and value to any space. Popular wood types include oak, maple, and walnut. It’s crucial to properly acclimatize the wood before installation to prevent warping or gaps.

Vinyl Plank Flooring

Vinyl plank flooring is a versatile, water-resistant option that mimics the appearance of natural wood or stone. It’s budget-friendly and suitable for high-moisture areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring offers the look of hardwood but at a lower cost. It is resistant to scratches and wear, making it ideal for high-traffic areas. The installation process is relatively simple, with click-lock systems that make it easy for DIY enthusiasts.

Steps for a Successful Hardflooring Installation

Below is a brief guide to the steps for a successful installation for DIY owners who want to learn more about the process. Proper preparation and having the right tools are essential for a smooth and professional installation. If you want to take on the challenge yourself, below are the steps involved.

1. Prepare the Subfloor

Before installing any hardflooring, the subfloor must be clean, level, and dry. Uneven surfaces can cause the floor to buckle or create gaps. In some cases, a moisture barrier may be required to prevent damage.

2. Acclimatize the Flooring

Hardwood and laminate materials should acclimatize to the room’s temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours before installation. This prevents expansion or contraction after the flooring is laid.

3. Measure and Cut the Flooring

Measure the room carefully to determine the number of planks needed. Always leave a small expansion gap between the wall and the flooring to allow for natural movement.

4. Start Laying the Flooring

Begin at one corner of the room and work your way out. Depending on the type of hardflooring, you might use adhesive, nails, or a click-lock system. Ensure that each row is straight and secure.

5. Install Transitions and Baseboards

After laying the floor, install transition strips between rooms and reattach baseboards. This provides a clean, finished look and covers any expansion gaps.

Harrison just re-finished our oak floor including sanding and staining with a custom colour. We were most impressed with his professionalism, knowledge and his workmanship…. and his patience with us as he mixed us multiple custom colours until we found the one we loved! I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment in recommending him. He is a true professional.

We were super pleased to work with Harrison after needing to have our carpets removed and replaced with hardwood. He and his crew showed up exactly on time, completed the project in the time he said they would, did great work, and the final invoice was right in line with the quote. Having worked in the construction industry for many years, I can't stress how rare that is.
